Weekly message – Sunday 7 June

Dear friends,

Rosemary RichterOne group of people who have become dear to our hearts in lockdown are hairdressers. We miss them!

I started out by getting hair slides – something I haven’t used since Junior School – but my hair was still slipping into my eyes and fidgeting me. Inspired by my venture into hairdressing using hair clippers on Philip, I decided to do the more complicated task of taking scissors to mine!

I lifted my hair in sections with a comb, like my hairdresser, and thought that I could cut it across. A friend warned me that it is difficult to use scissors when you are looking into a mirror – but I reasoned that it didn’t look that difficult and I would give it a try.

Well, I have achieved cutting my fringe and the overgrown sides of my hair – but my attempt is nowhere near as good as I thought it would be. (Understatement!) Indeed, it turned out to be extremely difficult looking into a mirror and trying to work out in which direction the scissors should go!

Reflecting on lockdown has given us different perspectives, and is causing us to re-evaluate our lives and what is important. There have been positives and negatives, and it is challenging to think out what it all means. One Bible quotation has come home to me – in the JB Phillips translation:

At present we are … looking at puzzling reflections in a mirror. The time will come when we shall see reality whole and face to face!

I am gaining more understanding, but hoping face to face encounters will reveal the mysteries and help me positively work out the direction I should be going in!

Every blessing,
