Guidance for coming to church

Sunday services start again on 6 December at 10.30 am

This page has everything you need to know about our Covid-secure arrangements for worship. Please read it before attending a service. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us in good time.

If you don't normally worship with us we would love to see you, but we suggest you contact us to make sure there will be room for you. If necessary a seat can be reserved.

Please note that booking is required for our two carol services on Sunday 20 December. Please contact the church office to reserve a place.

Updated 2 August 2020: face coverings are now mandatory
Updated 16 August 2020: a small group is permitted to sing
Updated 24 October 2020: heating will be on during the service

Updated 29 October 2020: communion re-starting; test and trace QR code displayed

Before you come

If you have any symptoms of Covid-19, please do not come to church.

Bring a mask: face coverings are mandatory in communal indoor spaces. Please bear in mind that some people are exempt from wearing them, and the reasons for this may not be visible to others.

The church heating will be on during the service. However, some windows will be open for ventilation and so the heating may not seem as effective as usual. Please come prepared if you feel the cold.

When you arrive

Please enter by either door, but be prepared to wait before entering, keeping two metres from the person in front of you.

On entering the building, please sanitise your hands: sanitiser pumps will be available.

There will be a steward available near each door ready to offer (socially-distanced) help and advice.

Your presence will be recorded for test and trace purposes. If you do not consent to this, please make this known when you arrive. Personal information will be destroyed after three weeks.

If you have a smartphone and have downloaded the NHS Covid-19 app, please scan the QR code each time you enter the building.

Chairs are arranged singly and in groups. If you come alone, please sit on a single seat, leaving groups of chairs for people from the same household.

Please make your way to a seat straightaway. You will find an order of service on your seat.

What to expect

The Young Explorers are meeting separately in the Lower Park Hall and are not coming into the church.

There is no crèche available.

Toilets are open as usual.

You are invited to place your offering in the box near the door either as you enter or as you leave (the offering will not be presented during the service).

The service will be shorter than usual (30 – 45 minutes).

Congregational singing is not allowed, and we are asked to speak quietly when making any responses.

A small group is permitted to sing (so long as they remain distanced): a group of choir members may sing some of the hymns.

Holy Communion

We will remain in our seats for communion and use prefilled communion packs so that the elements aren't handled by anyone other than yourself. The packs will be available for you to pick up on entering the church; please place your empty cup in the box by the door on your way out. See forthcoming services for details of when communion will be held.

After the service

Please take your order of service away with you. If books are used please leave them on your seat.

We are not serving tea and coffee.

Leave the building promptly, observing social distancing, and do not remain inside the church for conversation.

Once outside, observe government guidance for meeting people.
